Overview
MyRoost ("we", "our", "the app") is a home inventory application.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what
data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
1. Data We Collect
MyRoost collects only the information you explicitly enter:
- Item details — names, descriptions, photos, purchase prices, and serial numbers
- Receipt and document photos you attach to items (camera access is used only when you choose to take a photo)
- Maintenance task records
- Your email address and account credentials (used for sign-in, and to identify you to other members of your household)
- A push notification token (used to deliver maintenance reminders to your device)
We do not collect browsing history, location data, contacts, or any
information outside the app.
2. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used exclusively to provide the MyRoost service:
- Displaying and organizing your home inventory
- Syncing your inventory across devices for your household
- Sharing relevant household data (including your email address) with members you invite to your household
- Sending maintenance reminder push notifications
- Generating inventory PDF exports at your request
- Checking your items against public product safety recall databases (see section 4)
- Using AI to help scan items, read receipts, and suggest categories (see section 4)
We use aggregated, anonymous usage analytics (see section 4) to understand how the
app is used and improve it. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
3. Data Storage
Inventory data is stored securely in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and
Firebase Storage), encrypted in transit and at rest, and synced across
your devices. Data may also be cached locally on your device for offline
access.
4. Third-Party Services
MyRoost uses the following third-party services:
-
Firebase (Google) — cloud sync, authentication, and storage.
Firebase's privacy policy:
https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
-
Google Gemini API — used to power AI features such as scanning items
from photos, reading receipts, suggesting categories, and the "Ask
Roost" assistant. Photos and text you submit for these features are
processed by Google's Gemini API. When you use "Ask Roost," your
household's inventory list and maintenance tasks are included so the
assistant can answer questions about your items. Google's privacy
policy:
https://policies.google.com/privacy
-
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) — when you use the recall
checker, your item names and brands (and, for vehicles, make/model/year)
are sent to these public government databases to check for safety
recalls. No account or personal information is sent.
-
Firebase Analytics (Google) — collects aggregated, anonymous usage data
(such as which screens are viewed and how often the app is opened) to
help us understand and improve the app. This is not linked to
advertising and is not shared with data brokers.
No advertising networks or data brokers are used.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Your data is yours. You can delete individual items at any time from
within the app. To delete your entire account and all associated data,
contact us using the details in section 8 below.
6. Children's Privacy
MyRoost is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly
collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has
provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we
will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued
use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated
policy.
8. Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy, your data, or want to
request account deletion, use "Feedback & Suggestions" in the app's
Settings menu, or email us at
myroosthomeapp@gmail.com.
